Level 3 Award in Education and Training (PTLLS)
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET – previously known as ‘Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector’ or ‘PTLLS’) is the ideal choice for anyone with responsibility for planning and delivering training in the workplace or lifelong learning sector, someone looking to move into a training-related role or enhance their CV in relation to delivering training. This may include those involved in either classroom-style or on-the-job delivery, or who may be working with schools, colleges or professional organisations (such as adult learning providers or national governing bodies of sport).
Our AET courses take place over three days ‘in the classroom’, either as consecutive dates or one-day sessions spread over several weeks. During the course, learners will undertake a range of theory, group and practical activities to equip them with a knowledge and understanding of the lifelong learning sector (including learning styles, planning inclusive training, teaching and learning techniques and assessment principles), and the skills and confidence to plan and deliver a training session.
The nature and approach of our AET courses means that the knowledge gained can be applied to any topic and environment!
Who should attend?
The AET is designed to provide an introduction to teaching for individuals who would like to work or currently work within colleges, independent training providers and/or local authorities, or deliver training in their own workplace…
It can meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, such as:
- Individuals not currently teaching or training;
- Individuals currently teaching and training, including those new to the profession; or
- Individuals currently working as assessors, who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.
Qualification details and validity
The AET is on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) at level 3, and our course is also fully CPD accredited. This means that certificates are nationally recognised and universally accepted by employers.
The course is made up of three units…
- Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training;
- Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training; and
- Understanding assessment in education and training.
Assessment and certification
In order to be awarded the AET qualification, learners will complete a workbook / portfolio of evidence during the course, which will then be assed by the course tutor. Learners will also be required to plan and deliver a short, 15 minute micro-teach on a session of their choice.
Age restrictions and group sizes
In order to complete this qualification, learners are required to be a minimum of 19 years of age. There are no other formal entry requirements. However, there is a requirement to carry out an initial assessment of a trainee teacher’s personal skills in maths, English and ICT.
The group size for our AET courses is limited to 15 learners.
